"152nd Civil District Court: Robert K. Schaffer
Over his two terms on the bench, Judge Robert Schaffer has been elected by his colleagues to important leadership positions such as local administrative judge, and voters should follow their lead by electing Schaffer to another term.
The graduate of the Houston College of Law (formerly South Texas College of Law) was also appointed to serve as the statewide pretrial judge for multidistrict litigation involving unintended acceleration in Toyota vehicles and ignition switch malfunctions in General Motors vehicles. These appointments go to show how much other judges respect and trust Schaffer to do a good job.
Schaffer, 64, calls himself a "lawyer's judge" who always tries to remember what life is like for the attorneys working in his courtroom. Before his election in 2008, Schaffer, a Democrat, had served as president of the Houston Trial Lawyers Association and had practiced law for 24 years.
Schaffer's Republican opponent, Don Self, did not meet with the Houston Chronicle editorial board."
